the MET
To put this bluntly- I hated everything we saw at the MET. I’m not quite sure what’s so artistic about letting paint run down a giant canvas… but I guess I’ll stop focusing on the art now. What I DID like about the tour was hearing stories about the artists. It’s so cool that they all knew each other before anyone became famous. They shared the same spaces- like one person’s studio later became another person’s studio. Not only were they all living in a close radius, they were drawing on the same inspirations and sharing thoughts with each other. They had meeting at places that still exist! I really miss that community aspect of Washington Square Park… or any place actually. I walk through the park and see painters on opposite ends of the block and all of the musicians spaced out far enough to not interfere with one another. I wonder if there’s ever going to be another strong artisty community in the Village…
