Edward Hopper

I really enjoyed the Edward Hopper presentation. I often look at people around the city and try to figure out their relationship to each other, where they're going to or coming from, and what kind of life they've had. I felt that the Hopper presentation was the perfect example of that exercise in an art forum. It demonstrated how subjective art really is. Two different people can take away two completely different things from the same one painting. Perhaps it is the ambiguity of art that makes it so universally appealing. People of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds can go to a place like the MOMA and enjoy it simultaneously. Hopper was a master of ambiguity, as the professor and his assitant pointed out through their in depth acting of the two scenes relating to the painting. I will definitely take away from their presentation some shifting concepts about the nature of art, as well as ambiguity and how it dictates judgment in our society.
