Judson Memorial Church means a few things to me. I had known about its activist nature because my mom had told me about the church when she talked to me about NYU and living in the Village. She had attended dance performances and other events there. She may have even participated in a dance performance there.
Last year, Arcade Fire scheduled five consecutive nights of shows at Judson Memorial Church. I was excited because I knew the church couldn't possibly be that big so it would be an intimate sort of concert experience, more like the shows I usually like going to. Of course, the shitty Bowery Presents, somehow undersold all the shows leaving them "sold out." I woke up at 9am that morning and was unable to get a ticket to any of the nights. I was only on the website for 10 minutes.
Luckily, I had read on a blog that many tickets were being made available on the night of the shows. I waited in line with my friend Martin for at least 2 hours in the freezing cold and was able to get a ticket. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Going to Judson Memorial in a completely different setting, during class, and sitting on the stage looking out was a pretty cool feeling. It's a beautiful space. I love the architecture. I also love how involved the church is with the Park and the Village community. It makes me happy that a sense of community even exists.
