Hopper class

The professor (sorry, I’m a black hole for names) who came in to talk about Hopper brought up an interesting point. Because Hopper captures a single moment right around the climax of the story, countless different things could be happening in his paintings. I really enjoyed watching them act out different scenes from the diner painting. (Oh, and I had NO idea Hopper’s images were based on locations in NYC!) The feelings they pulled out from the painting ranged from serious to comical- completely opposite and neither was wrong! Ironically, the same diner painting showed up in another one of my classes that week. One guy in my self portrait photography class is taking well known paintings and working himself into the scene. For the Hopper painting, he was standing outside of the window and mooning the guy behind the counter. Anything, no matter how odd, CAN be happening in Hopper’s paintings!!!!
