Judson

Before we visited Judson Chuch, I walked by there every day and never took a second glance. It was just another church. Nothing interesting. Then we heard about how Judson opened their doors to everyone during the folk singer riot. I was impressed by the nice gesture they made towards those being exiled from the park. When we looked at the main church space I thought "wow you could totally put bands in here" (no... I really did). After a bit of leisurely googleing, I found out Judson has been super supportive of the arts for decades! They hosted art shows, plays and BANDS, most of which were leftist and controversial. And apparently Arcade Fire played there last year... way for me to not know!!! In retrospect, after all we've read and heard, I don't know why I was floored to find out that another building along Washington Square Park helped mold its “artists’ refuge” reputation.
